Lace filigree cabinet knobs.

anthropologie inspired cabinet knobs
I love Anthropologie, and not just the clothes. I love the housewares, too. The only problem is that I don't love the prices. I really don't want to pay $42 for a cool dresser knob (okay, not that much, but you know what I mean). Amanda didn't want to either, so she used a set of knobs from Anthropologie to inspire her to create this lace filigree version. I love hers just as much, if not more, than the original inspiration. Pay a visit to her to find out how she got that gold filigree - it's so easy!

Upcycled Halloween craft - tic-tac-toe.

Halloween tic-tac-toe
Walter has delighted us with his projects for over a year now - and I really really love what he does for Halloween! I'm not sure if you remember his fun jack-o-lantern magnets or his cute Halloween cupcake pedestal tutorials, but those are a must see. He's back again with a recycled project to have a little bit of fun this Halloween, and I love it. Here's how he made his Halloween tic-tac-toe.

-------------------
As you may know, I too adore Halloween and the imagery. I have been wanting to create a recycled craft tutorial for some time and this "Halloween Tic-Tac-Toe" item is super FUN to make.

Supplies:

Sometimes making stuff from discarded items can be surprisingly good . . . I am so pleased with the way this traditional, fun game came out. This is how I made it:

• Any Mod Podge will work . . . I used Gloss and Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.
• 10 plastic caps, washed and dry! Mine came from the Almond Milk I drink and have a 1" opening.
• 1" Friskars Circle Paper punch
• Halloween themed rubber stamps
• Paintbrush
• Mod Podge tools
• 6" x 6" jewelry box, got mine at a yard sale . . . you can buy newer unfinished boxes available at most craft stores

I created a 6" x 6" digital image using vintage Halloween ephemera and had a laser copy made. If you don't have Photoshop skills, no problem - use scrapbook paper with pre-printed graphics! Divide the square box by three vertically and three horizontally and Mod Podge your grid to your liking. I then decoupaged the the sides of the lid and sides of the box with, orange and black textured cardstock.

It looks so good! Next, seal the whole box with Mod Podge for a durable finish. TIP: I used the NEW silicone Mod Podge mat. WOW, I love this product!!! This mat is fantastic! I use to decoupage on old discarded newspapers. No more unwanted "image transfers" on my decoupage items . . . and clean up is so easy! I hope Plaid introduces bigger sizes in the future.

For the game pieces I created two (1" square) designs with some Halloween themed rubber stamps (skull and jack o' lantern) and used my 1" Friskar Circle paper punch to cut out the images. Decoupage the images into the cap, let dry and repeat!

***You want to make sure the insert is fully coated with Mod Podge, including the sides or the Dimensional Magic will seep into the image. I tripled coated my game pieces. Then I added the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and let dry over night. They came out AWESOME; it looks like I used a resin coat without the mixing and toxic smell.

The game pieces are stored inside the box for storage . . . genius! Project completed! Let's play Halloween tic-tac-toe on family game night! This is a great craft for children and parents - a far cry from playing video games and no interaction with family members. I plan on making another with my niece and nephew and introducing them to a game of tic-tac-toe. Happy Halloween!

Mod Podge Halloween faux mosaic.

Halloween faux paper mosaic
There are, on occasion, those projects that are very time consuming but are completely worth it in the end. It's like the time I painted acorns. That was a labor of love. But the truth is that time consuming crafts can be worth it and also SO relaxing. I imagine that was the case with this amazing Halloween mosaic from Melissa. You can tell she spent a lot of time on it but the results were oh-so-worth it. You can adapt this mosaic process to any holiday or image (I'm thinking of doing my pug Roxie). Melissa's tutorial makes it easy to understand, so head over there and then get your mosaic on ASAP.

Aged paper decoupaged table.

This is one of the coolest furniture revamps I've ever seen. Using vintage engineering drawings from the 1800s, Wendy blew them up and fixed up an old kitchen table by decoupaging them to the top. I was so interested to read about how she did it, because she made the drawings blend into the wood so well. Let's say that some glaze and fancy Podgework were involved, and you just have to read it. Take a peek at Wendy's blog entry below to learn more.

Easy decoupage: Halloween plate with skull napkins.

Cathie and Steve's passion for crafting always shows so well with their Halloween ideas. It's their favorite and you can tell! This time it's using napkins from the dollar store and a clear glass plate - and I love how the book pages slightly show through the skulls, which makes it look like the plates were meant to be this way. Which is obviously the case. There's a whole set of goodies that you need to see. Click through to learn how Cathie made this plate as well as to see the other project ideas.

Mod Podge turquoise pumpkins.

If you love turquoise as much as I do, then you are going to love these pumpkins. At first I didn't even think they were real because the shades are so interesting . . . but a quick look at the project revealed that they are in fact real, and were painted at Brave Girls Club! I've actually been to Brave Girls Club and it's amazing experience. Amazing experience, amazing pumpkins - what more could you ask for? Visit BCG to see how they did it, and to learn more about this awesome art camp for women (you NEED to go!).

Halloween countdown calendar.

Halloween countdown calendar
I have total respect for Angie for making this Halloween countdown calendar. I did one for my book Mod Podge Rocks, and it was quite the labor of love. Countdown calendars are totally worth it though, because they are SO fun to make! Add googly eyes and you've got the icing on the cake. I think Angie's is particularly fun because it incorporates Sparkle Mod Podge, which is a little known wonder of the world. Head over to Angie's to learn how it was made.

Scrap wood pumpkin.

I like unique ideas for pumpkins, don't you? Sure, you can carve a pumpkin every year, but what about those pumpkins that keep on giving? If you have a bit of scrap wood, some paint, paper and Mod Podge, you too can have a bitty little scrap wood pumpkin to decorate your house year after year. I love Meredith's orange - I might also give teal a try, you know, just for fun. Take peek at Meredith's blog for the full how-to. And for the stems, you might have to drink a bit of wine. I'm just sayin.'

Fabric filing cabinet makeover.

Some of you are home office people like myself. Some of you may also shove the papers you receive into plastic bins or put on the cushion of your blue velvet papasan chair, just like I do. My friends, both you and I know those aren't where those papers go. We all need to get a filing cabinet, but instead of spending an arm and a leg from something new and fancy, we can just revamp an old one with fabric and Mod Podge like Cathy did. It's easier than you think, and you can choose the custom fabric that goes with your home decor or that you just plain love. Visit Cathy to see her entire filing cabinet makeover.

Mod Podge composition notebooks.

mod podge composition notebooks
Back to school is in full swing - and what is the current state of your notebooks? Are they boring? Because if so, you need a completely overhaul. And it doesn't take much . . . just a bit of scrap paper and some Mod Podge. Rhiannon has a good point in her post about making her own cute notebooks. I too see those ones that are $500 at Target (okay, not that much) and covet them. But it doesn't have to be that way. Pizazz up some clearance notebooks just by following Rhiannon's tutorial.

Halloween paper spider cones.

If you are new to my blog then you should know one thing right away - I love Halloween. It is without a doubt my favorite holiday, and I believe in going all out for it. Who doesn't love candy and spooky decorating? I decided to decorate paper cones this year, and turn them into Halloween paper spider cones. I decorated a doily cone last year for Christmas, and I definitely needed a few Halloween ones. So how did I make them fancy? With some scrapbook paper and a pile of new EKSuccess tools that I got in the mail.

I'm a huge fan of paper crafting tools, and EKSuccess was nice enough to send me a set of theirs to use.  I'm always using tools with paper and Mod Podge. Here's what I got - and these products are available at select Walmarts (FYI):

This is new packaging for EKSuccess and it looks fantabulous. There are project ideas on the packages and also QR codes. If you have a smart phone, you can scan the QR codes to go to educational videos about the product. Cool, huh?

If you are a fan of Halloween like I am, and you need some home decor, take a peek at my tutorial for these cones. These are so easy to make. Here's how it's done.

Gather These Supplies

EKSuccess Tools including the 1"scallop punch, retractable knife and titanium scissors
Paper mache cones - available from the craft store
Martha Stewart scrapbook paper - Halloween (I chose two themes)
Black scrapbook paper - 1 sheet
Embellishments - spider stickers and other stuff to put on/top the paper cones
Mod Podge Gloss
Acrylic paint - orange and black
Dowel rod - 1/16"
Paintbrush
Craft glue
Optional: spider stencil and black glitter paint

If you were wondering what the paper cones look like when you are shopping, here they are. Very paper. Very cone-like.

Your first step is to paint the bottom of your cones. You don't HAVE to do this, but I like in case a little bit of cone ends up peaking out. Let the paint dry.

This tool is going to be your best friend in this project, and is actually one of my favorite tools in the whole world. This isn't the first project I've done with the 1" scallop punch. I love this thing.

You are going to need a television or radio for this part - you need to punch out quite a few scalloped circles from your paper. You'll be covering both cones with them.

This is the best I could organize - I sorted my little scalloped punched papers into piles, so that I could make sure to know what I have (and get even numbers of each).

You can start wherever you want to on the cone - you just need to paint some Mod Podge down, smooth a circle down and then Mod Podge over the top. You'll want to overlap your circles. You'll probably also want to bend the circles a little bit before Mod Podging them down if the paper is thicker. I did this and it really helped.

Cover both cones and let dry - then paint a layer of Mod Podge over the top. Let that dry.

Use the retractable knife to trim the paper that overlaps the bottom.

At some point I decided I would add toppers to my paper cones. I used the scissors to cut off the ends.

I then painted small pieces of dowel rods with black paint, inserted them into the ends and glued them in. Then I glued embellishments on either side of the dowel rod.

One of the embellishments was a bat that I traced on the black paper with a stencil and cut out - then added black paint.

To finish off my cones, I added spiders. I used these spider stickers and some larger spiders that I glued to the sides.

Here's a bit of detail . . .

And the cones one more time. I'm sure by now you are convinced that you need paper cones, a scallop punch and of course, Mod Podge.

Did you like the tools? Don't forget to visit EKSuccess on Facebook, or their project site Spotted Canary for more ideas to make with them. You can also get an idea of what they have to offer with the video below. Enjoy!

One dollar flip-flop coaster.

DIY flip flop coasters
I have to admit that I love to wear flip flops year round. I've always lived in climates where you can pretty much do that - though it does get cold here in the south, I've never been afraid of cold feet. Since I love flip flops, naturally I love it when things around me wear flip flops as well - including glasses. Lindsay came up with this genius tutorial for turning flip flops into coasters, and I think they are so cute I can hardly stand it. You can draw any designs you like on them (skull for Halloween)? DIY sparkle Toms shoes.

DIY glitter Toms
I'm going to be honest with you - when I first saw Tom's shoes it was like the first time I saw Birkenstocks. I saw "ewww" to myself. But I think it was just out of fear of something new, because now I find them so cute and I want a striped pair. How could I have been so foolish? My friend Ashley revamped her daughter's pair with glitter and Mod Podge, and now they are ready wear to the opera. Or to a ball. Visit Ashley to learn how she revamped these awesome Toms shoes.
